A reversal on carbs →
this article is from last tuesday, so it’s probably OLD news but I wanted to post it anyway! A Reversal on Carbs Most people can count calories. Many have a clue about where fat lurks in their diets. However, fewer give carbohydrates much thought, or know why they should. But a growing number of top nutritional scientists blame excessive carbohydrates — not fat — for America’s...

Holiday Junk Food Junkie!
With all the tempting holiday treats around the past few days I feel like a junk food junkie! Everything is so tasty and sugary sweet. I can’t resist! The funny thing is that my stomach has been doing somersaults and punching me from the inside out (i mean I have been in some serious discomfort from all the sugar and processed junk), but I continue to have a bite of cake here and a cookie...

Overwhelmed
Overwhelmed with the Holidays and my job search (I think the holidays just magnify any and all stress in one’s life).  My food has been NOT GOOD (cookies, candy, bagels, pizza, etc).  Yes I’ve been eating bad, but the thing that’s really bothering me, is that, it’s not really bothering me.  It’s like, I eat a slice of pizza and I don’t even care or feel guilty. ...

Coaching at Crossfit 310
Kris (owner/head coach) is gone this week and has asked some of us Crossfit veterans to “coach” while he is away.  I am covering the 9:15 class M-T-W-TH.  Nothing crazy, no teaching new/unfamiliar movements or anything like that.  Just open the gym and “oversee” the class, “coach” everyone through the WOD (which in my mind means “cheer” and motivate...

Attempt 1: Spaghetti Squash with Ground Turkey
My kitchen looks like a bomb went off in it!0  I should have prefaced that with, I NORMALLY DON’T COOK.  So, anything more than frying up some eggs or mixing/throwing some items together is quite an ordeal for me.  Also, I think I may have been working with a not fully ripe Spaghetti Squash (? does that make a difference…?) So… I followed a recipe of a primal master: ...

Mark Sisson's Carbohydrate Curve
Yes, I have read “The Primal Blueprint” by Mark Sisson.  Normally any books that aren’t novels/fiction bore me to death, but Mark’s Book was great and an easy read.  One of the main topics he covers that really stuck with me is the CARBOHYDRATE CURVE: 0-50 grams/day – Ketosis and Accelerated Fat Burning Acceptable for a day or two of Intermittent Fasting towards ...

What a day!
Gosh, What a day!  Busy, busy, busy.  Got up this a.m.  had a 1/2 a protein shake and headed off to Crossfit.  First a partner WOD that included continuously holding a 45lb bar over my head for minutes at a time (punishment for setting it down, 3 burpees not only for myself, but for my partner too), kettle snatches, step-ups (to the 24inbox) and knees to elbows (is it weird that I like/find toes...

Michael Pollan, In Defense of Food
i LOVE #7 and #6…. lorenouellette: “1. Don’t eat anything your great grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food. “When you pick up that box of portable yogurt tubes, or eat something with 15 ingredients you can’t pronounce, ask yourself, “What are those things doing there?” Pollan says. 2. Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients, or ingredients you can’t pronounce. 3. Stay out of...

Ice Cups
Normally I love taking a bag of frozen peas and attaching to my ache/pain with an ace bandage and just sitting there (or even walking around - heck, it’s attached) and “icing” But some injuries benefit much more from “ice cups.” Benefits of Ice Cups -Allows for a better penetration of the cooling effects of ice therapy when compared to traditional ice bags. -Ice...

today started out rough after the day I had yesterday.  Didn’t feel like working out, and felt like crying a little bit (because I know the people there are my friends and would have comforted me) when I first got to the gym.  Pushed that all aside and glad I did, because I had a great workout.  roll warmup: 3x Row 250m 10 Squats 6 Push Ups 10 Hangcleans(1), Power Cleans(2), Clean &...

80:20 Nutrition:Fitness
This was my topic/post today for the Crossfit310 website.  I liked it, and wanted to share with the tumblrs.  It includes a link to an interesting article that you may have seen before, since I found it through a fellow tumblr barbell awakening (thanks!) Have you ever heard of the Nutrition/Fitness 80:20 rule?  It says that Body Composition is determined 80% by diet (what you eat) and 20% by your...

Ouch!  Mine hurts!  Crossfit workout on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving was RUN 1 MILE for time.  Hadn’t run in so long, and I think my “I feel the need, the need for speed” mentality might have made me push it a little too hard.  Now what to do about it?  Everything I’ve read says “complete rest” from any activity that causes discomfort,...
